Initial Album Art Research

When constructing our artist's identity, we noted down existing artists who are similar to our artist, Ava - including Gabrielle Aplin, Kate Nash and Lily Allen, whose album artwork we can see above. The artist's identity needs to be clear on the album cover, and there needs to be synergy between the music video and the album art. Gabrielle Aplin's 'English Rain' album cover, for example, shows her in a little dress, showing her cute style, and she is in a natural space, connoting how her music is quite natural. Both of these aspects are evident in her music videos, including 'Please Don't Say you Love Me'.

The albums above are all very simply designed, with the artist (or a representation of the artist, as in Kate Nash's album) and a key prop, like the coloured umbrella in 'English Rain', the large 'L' in Lily Allen's 'It's not me, it's you' and the parachute in Kate Nash's 'Foundations'. The artists' names on the albums are very clear in bold lettering and a simple font, whereas the album titles are in a more hand-written font, which is not as legible, but more artistic.
